I grew up in a countryside in the northern part of Bangladesh, where most of the people were engaged in agricultural activities. When I was in class three, I came to know that majority of Bangladeshis earn their living directly or indirectly from agriculture but unfortunately, they were unable to meet up nation’s food needs due to entrust them in antediluvian agricultural practices. From that day, I determined to pull up our outmoded agriculture to sustainable agriculture and wanted to explore the immensity of science and technology in agriculture. This bewitchment drove me to complete up to my college study with science major. I came to know that factors such as pest, diseases, poor quality seeds and environmental hazard drastically reduce our agriculture production. The furtherance of agriculture technology emerging in world and uplift of the new agricultural sectors boosted my propensity to be part of this great change across the world. This firmness and inclination planted the seed in me to choose agriculture as major in undergraduate studies and finally more specific area is biotechnology in my MS studies. For pursuing Bachelor of Science studies, I got admitted in agriculture at Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University (HSTU), which is considered as one of the best universities for technical education and research in northern part of Bangladesh. During my undergraduate studies, I had completed seventeen subjects with total one hundred and eighty-three credit hours and among them I had penchant for plant immunity, plant protection, biotechnology and plant breeding related major courses and I was fascinated and meditated to explore the diversity of the research field in those subjects. Northern part of Bangladesh is more likely to drought prone during the April to August. When I was sophomore, it had motivated me to disclose the mystery of efficient water usage in rice field and I developed a project that was combination of natural mulching, appropriate irrigation system with suitable drainage layout. The irrigation system prevents thirty percent water loss compare to traditional practices that brought patronized for me in my university. In addition, I carried out research in a team under the supervision of Dr. S.M. Emdadul Hassan during my undergraduate studies. The root-knot nematode (Meloidogyne javanica) is a major enemy to cause the reduction of brinjal production 80 percent or more. My research focus was to protect brinjal plant from root-knot nematode using some selected plant extract and major findings were published as an article in the journal of “International Journal of plant & Soil Science”. Moreover, during the extension field trip in final year, I trained up the farmer how to do efficient farming of different variety of crops and had to manage them in different activities according to their ability as well as had to lead them to right direction. My subtle supposition and leading power came off with flying colors and gave rise to first position of my team. I got admitted in MS program in biotechnology at the same university in order to better understanding of modern agriculture. To begin with, I joined at a training program entitled “Training on basic biotechnology” from the National Institute of Biotechnology, Bangladesh to train up myself for carrying out research. My thesis work focuses on to find out drought tolerance rice genotypes for the northern region of Bangladesh. In addition, I carried out research on in vitro tissue culture of potato in order to resolve the deficiency of potato seeds. Note that in Bangladesh, only around seven percent true seeds are available in each year for potato cultivation. I am currently writing two journal articles based on my research findings. Apart from the academics, I always try to do voluntary work for needy people. I joined to “Prothom Alo Bondhushava - a voluntary club working for social welfare. Besides, I feel an urge to do something for my community. I had formed an online cost-free educational organization called 24bdexam.com to teach academic lesson to school going children. Students can participate in variety of preparatory exams at their suitable time without any cost, which eventually help them to prepare for their final exams. I was also an active member in debating club and cultural organization to polish my leading ability. My purpose of applying in the MS program at College of Life and Environmental Science in Shanghai Normal university is to become a well-trained researcher and educator in the field of plant immunity under the supervision of Professor Shui Wang. This university grab my intensive interest when I came to know more about its research, lab facilities, and a very strong faculty doing extensive research. My main research interest is in the field of plant immunity, cellular mechanism, integrated pest management, bioinformaticsand variety development (hybrid, inbreed) using marker analysis and QTL mapping etc. The lab facility and research directions of the College of Life Science and Environmental Science in Shanghai Normal university are the primary reasons for choosing the Shanghai Normal university for my MS program. I will consider myself as a lucky person if I get admission in this university with financial aid and get the opportunity to work in my desire field. After reading newspaper and hearing from professors, I come to know that China has world-ranked educational institutes and favorable research environment, which makes a great allure to the students for choosing China as a suitable place for higher education. Moreover, its gentle hospitality, cultural norms and values boost my interest towards China and thereby, I have decided to pursue my higher education in China. After all, research in my desire field at the Shanghai Normal university can pave the way to fulfil my cherished dream.
