1. Program Introduction

Editor Notes: The goal of this program is to train talents who can grasp the basic theories and knowledge of construction and management of civil engineering.

Construction and management of civil engineering is an interdiscipline which covers civil engineering, engineering economy, management science and engineering. This discipline mainly studies management of construction project, risk prediction and management of engineering projects, economics and management of real estate and so on. The goal of this program is to train talents who can grasp the basic theories and knowledge of construction and management of civil engineering, understand the development trends of this discipline, skillfully use project softwares to conduct technical works, have the ability to do scientific research and carry out practical works independently.

This program is offered by School of Economics and Management. The length of study is 3 years which includes 1-1.5 years of course studying.

Civil Engineering is one of the first majors established in ZUST more than 30 years ago. After years of construction, the profession platform is steadily improving, and the strength of scientific research is increasingly growing. In 2008, Civil Engineering was recommended by Zhejiang Provincial Education Department and approved as one of the third batch of national characteristic specialty construction points. In 2010, Civil Engineering Lab Center was classified as experimental teaching demonstration center in Zhejiang Province. In May 2012, Civil Engineering passed the National Civil Engineering undergraduate education assessment held by Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development of the People’s Republic of China (MOHURD), and became the first major that has passed the professional assessment in Zhejiang University of Science and Technology, ZUST. In June 2012, Civil Engineering was funded as the key discipline by the Zhejiang Provincial Twelfth Five-Year Plan. In January 2013, the construction of academic master’s program of Civil Engineering passed the qualification check.

Civil Engineering discipline carries out international exchange and cooperation positively, broadens the international educational channels to enhance cooperation with oversea universities. So far,the partner universities are German Jade University of Applied Sciences, Nuremberg University of Applied Science, Nuernberg, Coburg University of Applied Sciences, San Francisco State University, Catholic University of Louvain, and France Cergy-Pontoise University and so on. The main programs include Civil Engineering International Program (San Francisco State University),Double Degree Program (Luebeck University of Applied Science), Sino-France Joint Program (Cergy-Pontoise University).
