1. Program Objectives

Editor Note: Most students are engaged in professional mechanical/material science and engineering or pursuing higher academic degree program.

The Master's program offered by the School of Mechanical Engineering (ME) and School of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) aims to help the students to gain knowledge and skills in the related field that match their interest, and to build solid foundation for a successful career in professional mechanical/material science and engineering or pursuing higher academic degree program. In this program, the students will develop their analyzing, designing and experimental abilities through course studies, lab activities, specific studies, and independent research, etc.

2. Program Overview

Editor Notes: There are scientific conferences, seminars, and other forms of academic activities in this proggram and students must pass mid-term assessment.

1. Supervisors should follow the instructions of this document and make an individual study plan for the students after their registration at the School of International Education.

2. Student education should combine theoretical and practical aspects. The students should master fundamental theories, professional knowledge, as well as basic methods of scientific research, and have certain experimental skills.

3. Students should actively participate scientific conferences, seminars, and other forms of academic activities.

4. Both Master's and PhD programs have a mid-term assessment. For Master's candidates, mid-term assessment will be organized by the student supervisor or department in third semester; for PhD students, mid-term assessment will be organized by the student supervisor or department in fourth semester. Students who pass the assessment can continue studying; whereas those who fail the assessment may take
the next examination in the next semester.

5. After finishing courses and intensive literature survey of certain research field followed by preliminary research, the doctoral students should complete the dissertation proposal at the end of the second semester.

3 Course Work

Editor Notes: This program requires every student to complete at least 24 credits.

The academic Master's programs of Master of Mechanical Engineering consist of at least 24 credits for course work. Required courses include Comprehensive Chinese I (2 credits), Outline of China I (2 credits), degree courses (no less than 8 credits), and elective courses (no less than 8 credits). Innovation Harbour Lectures are included in elective courses for international students, 2 credits will be granted after attending 20 Lectures.

Other compulsory activities include academic lectures (1 credit) and mid-term assessment (3 credits).

5. Xi an Jiaotong University Introduction

Editor Notes: XJTU is recognized by WHO and the graduates of MBBS program are eligible to take the Medical Licensing Examinations held by the medical councils in different countries such as MCI, PMDC, USMLE, MMC, NMC etc.

Founded in Shanghai in 1896 as the Nanyang Public College, Xi'an Jiaotong University is one of the oldest institutions of higher learning in China. 

Today's Xi'an Jiaotong University is a comprehensive research-oriented university with its focus on science and engineering. Its programs cover the fields of science, engineering, medicine, economics, management, literature and arts, law, philosophy, and education. It consists of 17 schools, offering 74 undergraduate programs, 199 master programs, and 114 doctoral programs. In 2007, the number of full-time undergraduate students was over 17,000 and that of graduate students nearly 13,000.

There are more than 2,500 full-time faculty members, dedication to both teaching and research. The current faculty includes 16 members of the Chinese Academy of Science and the Chinese Academy of Engineering, as well as members of the American Academy of Engineering, the British Royal Academy, and the Third-World Academy of Science. *2. Completed Original Physical Examination Record for Foreigners and Blood Test Report

The physical examination must cover ALL the items listed in form. The forms with incomplete records or without the suggestion and signature of the attending physician, official cross-edge stamp of the hospital or a sealed photograph of the applicant are invalid. Please select the appropriate time to take physical examination as the result is valid for only 6 months.

3. Original Research Achievements and Notarized Copies

Applicants may submit published research papers, award certificates or other documents to prove their achieve-ment and ability in academic research if any.

*4. Photocopy of Valid Ordinary Passport

With name, passport number & expiration date, and photo included(Photocopy of valid passport identification page. Passport must be an ordinary passport and be valid for at least six months. Applicants currently residing in China must include a copy of the page containing a valid visa or residence permit.)

*6. Original Highest Diploma and Its Notarized Copies

Certificate in languages other than Chinese or English should be translated into Chinese or English and be certified by notarization. Both original and official English translated version are required.
Prospective diploma winners must submit official certificate from their current university

*7. Original transcripts in undergraduate or graduate period and their notarized copies

Academic Transcripts in languages other than Chinese or English should be translated into Chinese or English and be certified by notarization. Both original and official English translated version are required.

*8. Recommendation Letters

Two original recommendation letters written by professors or associate professors. If applicants have already got provisional acceptance from professors in XJTU, please ask this professor to issue a recommendation letter in the required format.

*9. Original Non-criminal Record

It must be issued by your local police station with official stamp.

Applicants must submit a written study plan or research proposal in English or Chinese, with a minimum of 800 words.

12. Supporting Documents: Certificate of Good Conduct
