The Department of Electronic Science and Technology offers Ph.D. and Master Degree program in Electronic Science and Technology that are completely research based with minimal and flexible course requirements. The applicants select their concentration from the following four areas: Microelectronics & Solid State Electronics, Physical Electronics, Circuits & Systems and Electromagnetic Field & Microwave Technology. The master's degree program typically takes 2~3 years of full-time study and the PhD program takes 3~6 years full-time study. PhD students are required to complete 10 credits of course study (6 credits from core courses at least) to fulfill the graduation and master students need total 26 credits for graduation (13 credits from core courses at least).
The department provides English courses to all graduate students, covering various interdisciplinary research areas, including (1) Physics of Semiconductor Devices,(2) Principles of Electronic Materials and Devices,(3) Semiconductor Lighting Technology and Fabrication,(4) Modern Power Devices and Smart Power ICs,(5) Structure-property Relations of Materials,(6) High Resolution Electron Microscopy,(7) Design of Analog CMOS Integrated System,(8) Materials Science of Thin Films,(9) Nanoelectronic Devices. Moreover, graduate students are also welcome to take English courses provided by the College of Electrical and Information Engineering.
The Department of Electronic Science and Technology produces world-recognized research across the broad spectrum of electrical engineering while being dedicated to the education and mentoring of undergraduate and graduate students. The department offers various education levels from bachelor’s to PhD degree’s programs. Over 70s affiliated faculties are engaged in cutting-edge research funded by a wide variety of China government agencies and industrial partners. 40 of them are capable to supervise PhD students; 2 of them are members of Chinese Academics of Science; 5 of them are selected into the Recruitment Program of Global Expert of Chinese Government; 2 of them are involved in Cheung Kong Scholars Program; 1 of them is the recipient of China National Funds for Distinguished Young Scientists. The department carries four research platforms for conducting world-recognized research, including International Dielectric Research Center, Electrical Materials Research Laboratory, Key Laboratory for Physical Electronics and Devices of the Ministry of Education, and Shaanxi Key Laboratory of Photonics Technology for Information.
There are four main research directions in the Department of Electronic Science and Technology, which are Microelectronics & Solid State Electronics, Physical Electronics, Circuits & Systems and Electromagnetic Field & Microwave Technology. Our research strengths include novel electronic materials and devices, new generation of microwave materials, ferroelectric thin films and integrated devices, photonic materials and devices, nano photonic theory and devices, LSI design and microelectric technology, nano-electronics and micro/nano fabrication, integrated optics, moden vacuum electron devices and technology, energy converter and storage, etc. Research is not limited to our graduate students; undergraduates are welcomed and integrated into research labs and are regular co-authors on scholarly publications.
The aim of PhD program in the department of Electronic Science and Technology is to develop PhD students to obtain a solid background in mathematics and physics, and have a considerable hands-on experience in conducting research. The PhD students should possess sufficient knowledge in electrical engineering and its related research areas during their studies. In addition, the PhD candidates will be trained to own an insightful vision on the future development of their research areas, and are able to provide a prospective research proposal independently and carry out the research project with a great research passion.
The purpose of master programs in the department of Electronic Science and Technology also aims to develop graduate students to have a solid background in mathematics and physics, and possess outstanding problem solving skills and overall management of the projects. Master students are required to proposal research idea and conduct research activities independently.
Most of master and PhD students graduated from department of Electronic Science and Technology are hired by government research institutes, government agencies, colleges, state-owned enterprises, and international corporations.
