I question myself on how I would be able to change certain things in my society, give my input or help the people who do not have a voice. And this is how my passion for Political Studies started. Initially,I did not always have an interest in Political studies, never paid much attention to it or even considered it as a career choice. However, slowly as the years went by, I started paying more attention to the things that were going on around me, taking advantage of the political situation in Kenya that is intensifying by the day. Watching the news daily grew into a habit, feeding my desire to be more aware of the political and economic state of the country, secretly weighing in my own thoughts and opinions about matters, which I would later discuss with a few of my classmates. While in year eight, I decided to join a simple class debate for the first time, I was evidently not the best debater; lacking the self-confidence to face my opponents, lacking the relevant points, but this did not stop me from trying. From then on, I occasionally participated in weekly debates, and this proved to be one of the best decisions I have ever made! My confidence grew with each debate, and by year ten, I was not only the best debater in class but was also awarded the best debater in the whole entire school. This helped me develop my leadership, communication, creativity and problem-solving skills. The idea of speaking and standing for what I believe in, gives me thrill and joy. I am aware that studying Political studies would not be an easy task but regardless, I am determined to push myself and achieve the best, as I am full of passion, confidence and motivation. Being a Political studies student entails a lot of reading, which just happens to be one of my hobbies. I am always excited to read about history and topics that leave me thinking, wondering what I would have done in that position, and putting myself in either situation. Being a historian was one of the best things about school for me, because I got to read a lot about the history of the world, how political decisions were made and study the different point of views from different people. These enhanced my analytical abilities and logical reasoning, making me a more critical thinker. Aside from studies, I have always had passion for music; being appointed chairperson of the music club also helped me develop my leadership and creativity skills, and as a member of the school band I develop my team working and organizational skills. Whereas being an athlete, taught me more about being a team player and having sportsmanship. After high school, I decided to take a gap year, because it would help me grow into my own person, being able to work independently, solving my own problems, making my own decisions without the influence of others. The idea of being able to stand up for myself and others, and learning more about psychology and history, motivates and draws me more to a career as an attorney.

My deep interest in International Relations lies mainly in desire to require further knowledge of our ever changing world and I deeply believe that Shanghai International Studies University will be the perfect choice for that. Observation of impacts of political ideas on one's society and the influence of international affairs of small countries, like mine, makes me realize how International relations are crucial for understanding the modern world today. Furthermore, I believe that this Masters Program will enable me to expand my knowledge in the main aspects of international relations such as foreign affairs, relations within the international community, international organizations, multi-national corporations and so forth. Furthermore, I have a great interest in current world affairs such as globalization, economic development, nationalism, migration, which are all the issues of international relations. With my master's studies I hope I can help in my country's main foreign policy goal, that is to join the European Union. For this reason my goal is to broaden my perception of International relations and hopefully help my home country of Montenegro better adapt to the international political arena. I did my exchange studies of one semester at the University of Warsaw, Poland. That gave me the opportunity to hold discourse of the Chinese economy during the Cold War at the German Historical Institute Warsaw. Research I conducted for my discourse gave me a great insight into how the Chinese economy transforms itself to become a manufacturing powerhouse that it is today and deepened my overall interest in China. There are many reasons for which I have chosen China to pursue my Master studies. China's ever bigger influence in the world with its steady economic growth seems as a very attractive destination. Its technological advancement and high ranking education institutes makes it a perfect choice for pursuing a Master's degree. With great experiences of other students from Montenegro in China I'm even more convinced in my choice to pursue a master's degree there. People's Republic of China has bilateral relations with Montenegro, which makes China a suitable country for studying international relations.Furthermore, China's fascinating and vibrant culture is of great interest to me and I would be grateful to learn about and live by the norms and values of the Chinese people. I am hoping for your favorable consideration and I look forward to your reply. With kind regards

Shanghai International Studies University, In five years I want to be in attendance of a Shanghai International Studies University (SISU) alumni dinner sharing stories of my experience during my time at SISU with my fellow alumni and future alumni. I plan being in a management position of an international team in an international company here in Shanghai, and helping future SISU graduates get positions in international companies through experience sharing and active alumni participation. My five year plan includes being fluent in Mandarin and working directly with Chinese co-workers because this is where I want to make an impact. I hope to earn a Intercultural Communication Master's degree from Shanghai International Studies, so I can achieve the goals I have set out for myself. While studying Intercultural Communication at Shanghai International Studies University I would put context and understanding behind the cultural experiences I have had in my office here in Shanghai and translate that knowledge into effective solutions to workplace problems. Using this context and understanding I would want to be able to facilitate discussions within international workplaces to bridge cultural gaps and to help international teams work at the highest level of efficiency while remaining culturally aware and sensitive. If granted the honor of acceptance into SISU's Intercultural Communications program I would study with diligence because this is a subject I have been passionate about and active in for almost a decade. I have been working with international societies in Seattle since 2010. I was on the planning committee of my college’s “Global Fest” and “Pink Prom” both of which were events created for the purpose of cultural inclusivity. In addition to my time event planning with the International Students Society I have been working with international start-ups and trend-setting global companies in Seattle since my graduation. I have been in charge of the facilitation of international events within the realm of entrepreneurship and technology for 5 years. Working with companies as large as Google and IBM to put on events like GlobalHack and Cognitive Builders Faire. Startup Grind; which is an international organization that promotes entrepreneurial ventures through networking and public events was one of my target focuses while in Seattle and has helped me establish a startup network here in Shanghai. I was also the Director of a Seattle non-profit that worked with International artists to paint murals in Seattle neighborhoods. My most cherished international experience is my time tutoring Somali refugees. Where I learned the value of education and the demand that cultures around the world have for it. It was tutoring Somali refugees that inspired me to pursue my Bachelors Degree. Now, in China I have found the same inspiration. My China story is very short, but the love I already have for China is essay worthy. I moved to Shanghai with the intention of traveling through Asia and experiencing culture shock in a world vastly different from my own. China was supposed to be a short stop on my long list of Asian countries I was going to be a resident in. That, however, is not what happened. I fell in love with this country, city, and culture. While standing under the hanging vines in TianZiFang discussing the urban revitalization of the lane housing in China I knew I didn't want to study anywhere else. It was the cab driver who helped me pronounce 新年快乐 correctly, and the Family Mart employee that gave me a red bean baozi because she was so excited to share a Shanghainese treat with me that confirmed my decision to make a home here. The Chinese people and culture helped me decide I was going to live here for an indefinite amount of time, but it was my co-workers that helped me realize what I wanted to do while I was here. My time working in an international office inspired me to purse a career in intercultural communication. The exchange of curiosities between my Chinese co-workers and I has taught me a lot about what being an international colleague means, and the importance of cultural understanding in the office. I became possessed by the dynamics of my international office, and realized I wanted to pursue an education in a field that would place me in a career managing an international team. I am fortunate enough to work with co-workers that are comfortable sharing their opinions on work, life, and their personal cultures with me. I began asking my co-workers about why they choose the company they work for and how they perceive the office culture. In making comparisons of the local co-worker's responses to the responses of my international co-workers I learned a lot about the Chinese culture and career expectations. It was my office culture here in Shanghai that brought me to the realization I wanted to pursue a higher education in international management, but it was my desire for the best education that brought me to Shanghai International Studies University. I started researching Intercultural Communication and the free online course from SISU on Intercultural Communication came up. I began looking into the Master's offered in Intercultural Communication offered by SISU after finding the abridged version online. I am eager to start the 5-week online course on April 16th, but I am hopeful I can get to study the whole curriculum at SISU. I would be honored to take courses taught by professors like, Steven Kulich, Hongling Zhang and Ruobing Chi. The most important step in getting the opportunity to study under professors that are passionate enough to host public online course about Intercultural Communications is getting into a school worthy of their dedication and knowledge. In the vison of continuing my education I can't see myself getting a better education anywhere else than Shanghai International Studies University. My goal of getting a Master's Degree in Intercultural Communications from SISU was even more solidified after reading the curriculum of the program. The course list is ideal for my educational goals. The emphasis in Chinese culture and the Chinese classes are perfect for my interest in remaining in Shanghai after graduation and the Intercultural Communication Competence: Theory & Practice would be essential for my future in international management. The practical knowledge gained from my time at SISU would be just as important to me as the honor of earning a degree from Shanghai International Studies University. The sharing of cultures goes so much deeper than sharing meals, idioms, and work expectations. It is a complex web of relativism and tradition. I want to spend my next 3 years gaining a better understanding for that web and how to create healthy international office cultures. I want to do that at Shanghai International Studies University. Thank you for your time and your consideration. I hope to hear from you soon. Caitlynd Davison

I have been living in Shanghai for a few months now, and my appreciation for the chinese culture and dynamics of the cosmopolitan city has grown considerably. With Shanghai being rich in cultural diversity and the increasing economic growth, its a favourable enviroment for the study of international relations. After some thorough research this is the ideal institution for me to pursue my studies in International relations, considering the global presence that the university has.

I have been studying Mandarin myself for the past two years and am keen to increase my skills in an immersive setting. I am currently working in Advertising and as brands become more global it is becoming increasingly beneficial to have international experience and I believe being bilingual will be incredibly beneficial to my future career. I’m also interested in studying Mandarin for personal reasons, as my father is from Hong Kong and I’ve always wanted to spend time in China. This University came highly recommended by several friends and family members. It was highlighted as especially good for International Students. The courses on offer here appeal to me because they cover the Chinese culture as well as Language - which I think will give me a greater understanding and make me a better linguist. I’m keen to get started as soon as possible, so am looking at the ‘Winter’ programme that runs for 3 weeks through January, then the ‘Spring Semester’ course from the end of February.

I have always demonstrated an interest for the studies of languages and dream of one day becoming a translator in Chinese, English, Portuguese and Spanish. Due to the fact that Portuguese and Spanish are cognate (Latin), it is much easier to learn one language based on the premise of knowing the other. Shanghai International Studies University is my first choice because I consider the school’s quest for high standards, as well as its tradition and experience in training diplomats. A look at its teaching and research dispensation is all-inviting to anyone serious. It is located in an international city, Shanghai, with a very cosmopolitan configuration. Shanghai seems to me, the best place to learn about China while living with students from all over the world. My choice of Shanghai International Studies University came as a result of two main things: the first is my deep interest in understanding China’s diplomatic dynamism, the power behind China’s peaceful, rapid, steady rise and meaningful participation in almost all major global affairs, and how to help my continent strengthen and enlarge cooperation areas with China. The second motivation why I chose SISU is because it is located in an internationally renowned city and therefore offers an ideal opportunity to experience China, Chinese culture and way of life in an international study environment. Other reasons include my desire as a young African woman to use the knowledge acquired in my under-graduate studies in Anthropology to better study and understand regional and international affairs, in the hope of contributing in the future to strengthen and promote good peaceful coexistence and diplomatic relations between peoples, cultures, countries and regions. I strongly believe that this course in Shanghai International Studies University is a great opportunity to acquire cross-cultural communication skills and keep alive my dream of playing a role in a multi-cultural world.

Shanghai International Studies University is well-known in all of China for its global capacities and successful higher education development and that's one of the reasons why I chose it. This opens doors to foreign students and specifically to me to be part of the Chinese university/campus life without being threatened by the language barrier. The academic program is really interesting to study with the help of the well-developed faculty and excellent administration and the presence of practical courses makes the program an eye-opening to the world. In addition, Shanghai International Studies University vision is to bring China and the rest of the world together which clarifies its respect of different cultures and its intention of introducing China with a clear image. Let's not forget that Shanghai is an international city which helps students to fit it easily and get to know the Chinese culture on its basis at the same time. Besides all of that, I have worked in China for 5 months and I realized that this country has an affordable cost of living which made me enjoy my stay while traveling, buying food, shopping, etc . As I read about Shanghai International Studies University's accommodations, I was not surprised by the low cost. Last but not least, being called an international university, SISU would not disappoint its students and especially foreign students and it would afford high-quality support services so they can get the best learning experiences as well as it would add extracurricular activities; on one side, foreign students would interact with local students and make networks and contacts during events & on the other side, foreign students would change the routine by practicing sports and enjoying their time. I am certain that Shanghai International Studies University would not disappoint me regarding its successful reputation and high ranking in China.

I consider the Shanghai International Studies University as an international institution of repute, which is not only centred in the accumulation of wealth and maximization of profits, but has its focus bestowed on the academic welfare of its students. The issues of security, socialization and personal growth for students is heart warming. It provide best, and internationally required research skills including the much necessary, data gathering, data analysing and data presentation skills which all aspiring academics should be conversant of.

Already studied Chinese for almost 5 months in the French university of Jean Moulin Lyon 3 as a Linguist (LEA Anglais-Chinois 1st year, that is about languages, Chinese and English here, and some economic and law stuff), I want to improve my Chinese level, and some of my teachers told me that the best way to do that was to go in China as soon as possible, so i started to think about it and i heard about Summer Program, and i think that's a good idea. I started to look for an university in Shanghai, because i love this city, and i found yours, which looks nice, and on my price range.

Merci.
