The complexity of the human body has always fascinated me. My interest in medicine reached the peak when I started volunteering at a health care clinic foundation. It made me grow not only as a medical student but also as a human being. Here, I learned the basic job skills acquired by doctors in the beginning of their careers - like checking blood pressure, reading x-rays, conveying reports, giving an injection, suturing and performing an ECG. I was also required to counsel patients regarding their exercise and diet habits. I was in direct contact with the patients and nurses at all times which provided me with a vision of what a career in medicine would entail. Shadowing a doctor made me aware of the challenges associated with this career and how important non verbal communication and body language is during interaction with patients. I have also visited elderly homes and orphanages as a student in school. I was able to gain valuable experience by working with special needs children. While this was very challenging, I also found it an equally rewarding and enjoyable experience. It helped to broaden my understanding of working with people and also taught me the art of tact with children. It made me see my life in a complete different light. When I did a detailed study about the courses and curriculum offered at your university, I was highly impressed by the content. The vast range of amenities offered, the highly experienced and respected faculty, the caliber of the student body combined with the traditions and an amazing infrastructure attracted me to this university. The modules offering pre clinical and clinical years in the medical degree are exactly what I was looking for. I am confident that studying at this university will empower me with sound knowledge of the basic principles and ethics and help me acquire the necessary skills to reach my goal. It will give me a strong foundation and grounding and is a perfect way to channelize my focus on strengths and work on my weaknesses under the guidance of an excellent staff. Being the head girl of my school, I took charge in social and professional situations. I have the leadership qualities that were required of me to conduct and participate in debates, entertainment shows, speeches, declamations, recitations and also to maintain a good relationship with the teachers and other students. I have had a few articles published in the daily local newspaper. My dedication to the goal of becoming a doctor is obvious from my recent academic and co-curricular performances. I scored a percentage of 95 in the first year of high school with biology, chemistry and physics as my focus subjects. Participating in the Model United Nations has helped me in developing some important skills like speech writing, public speaking, teamwork, communication skills and to develop a positive aggressiveness in debates. Here, I was awarded the “Special Mention” delegate.

As a young boy growing up, I always had interest in medicine. This ambition grew even stronger when I witnessed my beloved grandfather lose his life due to diabetes. A sickness if he was well looked after by the medical doctors in my country would have probably stayed a little long than he did. There were far too many patients at the hospital but only few qualified medical doctors. My parents and I together with my grandfather waited for about almost 10 hours in the Out Patients Department before getting the time to even see the doctor. I still remember the exact words the doctor said as if it happened just a couple of seconds ago. He said “old man you look very weak and I am sorry for that but I have to keep you here till tomorrow because I have closed and I can’t attend to anymore patients. Little did I know that was my grandfather’s last day on this planet? Just if we had sufficient doctors to run shifts my grandfather might still be alive today. With this at the age of just five I said to myself that I would do everything possible to become a medical doctor so that people in my country wouldn’t suffer the same fate my grandfather did. Also I always had great interest in Science and Mathematics because of the influence both of these subjects have on our regular lives. I know studying medicine is a very expensive path to choose. It requires a lot of money and looking at the time involved it will involve paying huge sums of money especially when you want to pursue this career abroad. This great universities offer quality medical skills to people like me from Africa at a very affordable price in the great nation like China. With your reasonably priced tuition and cost of living I feel it will be a great opportunity for me to come and pursue my medical career at your university. With my good communication skills, great ability to work both as a member and a leader of a team and readily available to offer any help to other people if possible, I think giving me this opportunity will help me in talking a step closer to reaching my aim of becoming a medical doctor.
