Every person goes through an introspective period at least once in their life. A ground-wrecking, life-changing realisation that eventually becomes the foundation of one's steps and decisions. I believe this period came from my eldest sister. She was diagnosed with leukaemia in 2003 at the age of eight and after a year of successful treatment, she went into remission. This victory however, was short-lived as she later developed cardiomyopathy which she suffered from until she passed on at the age of twenty-three. During the subsequent years after her diagnosis, I watched my parents search for qualified medical personnel and equipment that would best handle her condition, which were often found in countries other than my own because of her rare condition. Ever since then oncology has always been an area of interest and has contributed greatly to my strong desire to pursue Biotechnology as a course. Though several articles on the different discoveries made in the oncological field have been released one,in particular, stands out to me. This article was published on December 14th, 2018 in the ibs.GRANADA news on research led by the 'Biological Technologies' group of the university of Jaén. The research proposed a new model of tumour origin in which they proved to a confident degree that cancer cells appear at a later stage of tumour development and are responsible for metastasis and not tumour origin. This contradicts the 'cancer stem cell hypothesis' that was established in 2001 which states that cancer stem cells are responsible for tumour formation as well as resistance to several standard therapies. This discovery nonetheless makes it easier to completely eradicate the tumour before the development of the cancer stem cells as well as reduce the risk of recurrence after treatment. Furthermore, the research is recorded to have won first prize at the 2018 Doctoral Conference and was published in the scientific journal 'Critical Reviews in Oncology and Hematography'. Shivan Barungi, a fellow Ugandan who is recorded as a member of the group that made this discovery and has since been a source of inspiration to me, further enticing me to pursue this course as a building block for my career. Her courage to leave the comfort of her country and contribute greatly to the greater medical community is inspiring as she reaffirms the statement; a ship in a harbor is safe, but that is not what a ship is built for. In addition, during high school, I was fortunate enough to be the external coordinator of the Children Caring about Cancer (3C) club at Mt. St. Mary's College Namagunga where I had the opportunity to attend several conferences on cancer awareness and also had the privilege of organizing a Cancer Awareness gala in my school that was a stepping stone to building general cancer awareness in the community. I also participated in the organization of the annual Children's cancer party at the Uganda Children's Cancer Institute to acknowledge and give hope to all the children battling the disease as well as to recognize those who passed, a tradition that has long been passed on in our school. During this time I broaden my knowledge in this field beyond written literature, by listening to different people's experiences. I also had the opportunity to build my leadership and active listening skills through undertaking administrative roles as the assistant self-reliance representative in charge of general cleanliness and a class secretary. I am confident that I will be a great addition to your university as I believe I have much to offer and I'm prepared to learn even more. I firmly trust that your university, equipped with facilities that our local ones lack, is the right environment for me to equip myself with knowledge and skills that will make me a great bio technician and a great addition to science in Uganda upon my return.

JiaoTong is located in the city center of Shanghai, a city that stole my breath away. But also since I was a kid I wanted to take an engineering career. When I was in Highschool at the french school of Shanghai, I would go to XinCheJian (shanghai Hackerspace) to build stuff like 3d Printers and basic robots. I later on decided to open my own Hackerspace within my school. I am and I've always been truly interested into studying Robotics (Electrical engineer). But if I can study what I like in the city I love, It'll be for me the best condition to thrive and improve who I am and what I can accomplish.

After spending one semester as an exchange student at Fudan University the spring fo 2015, I knew that I wanted to return to Shanghai and China. As those months were some of the best and most educational months in my life, I felt that there was a lot more to learn from the city and country about business and culture. After doing a course at Fudan called "Foreign Business Investment" I gained a lot of interest in international business and especially doing business in China. Before traveling to China I was very unsure of which path to chose for a masters degree and therefore I was very open to suggestions. Through friends in Shanghai I heard about SJTU and the master of International Business. From current students I heard a lot of positive things about the program and SJTU. Therefore I started researching this program and found it amazingly interesting. Since I first started researching this program I have gained a lot more interest in International Business, and I can now see myself in the future with a career within this field. During my bachelor program from BI Norwegian Business School in Oslo, I had the option to study abroad for two semesters the final year. I immediately knew I wanted to live in Shanghai, China. As it turned out, those two semesters was probably the best months of my life so far. I met people from all over the world, I got to experience Chinese culture first hand and I got to live in one of the most beautiful city in the world. After I moved back to Norway, I wanted to study further more and receive a Masters degree. I tried picturing myself in other countries besides Norway, such as Germany, France or Great Britain. I somehow could now make myself apply to any other countries. Deep down inside, I knew my time in China was not over. I desired to come back, and enjoy Shanghai as much as possible. When I was in China, I met many students from Jiao Tong University. Describing how satisfied they were with the school. I had already experienced Fudan University, and I wanted to experience more of Shanghai. So this is why I have decided to apply the Master Program in International Business at Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU). I truly hope the school sees my passion and let my dream become a reality.

I've been in Shanghai this summer and I went in Jiaotong campus ,I've been impress by the beauty of this place and the neighborhood. Learning of the history of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, I believe it's the perfect environment to cultivate my Chinese language skills, in order to hopefully continuing to study there in Business. To satiate my curiosity and to fulfill my ambitions I have decided to pursue a master’s program in Mechanical Engineering. I would like to get involve in research work in this area. Although there is a vast scope for research in this area, the scope for research in Ghana is limited. The need for exposure to a wider environment has prompted me to seek an opportunity to study outside Ghana. To convey more about my interest, the final year project, Design of a Piezoelectric Transducer for Piezoelectric Power Scavenging of Mechanical Vibration Energy in the Mining Industry in Ghana which aims at integrating few features of standard design models, was an opportunity to gain knowledge of design applications in Mechanical Engineering. The four years degree undergraduate course has not only provided me with strong fundamentals, but has also reinvigorated me to learn more and goaded me to continue research related activities. My immediate career objective is a master’s program in Mechanical Engineering followed by a PhD and research oriented career in academia or industry. The choice of a good university with a faculty committed to teaching and research, and an atmosphere conducive to learning become extremely necessary. After critically going through your website I found that by taking graduate studies at your university, I would be able to venture into various subject purviews and also develop a strong sense of independence coupled with responsibility and self-reliance. It would also help me to learn global standards in this field and become aware of the worldwide competition, which I consider would be great for me to make a strong contribution in the field of Mechanical Engineering.
