Southeast university is located in Nanjing city.Southeast university is a very good university with well trained teachers. It has amazing architecture with very nice environment. The reason for me to choose Southeast University is, it is one of the oldest universities in China whose roots can be traced back in 1902 , also the university falls under the 211 and 985 project sanctioned by the Government. At 5 years old I never questioned where buildings came from. So when I learnt that my grandfather built the house I have lived in for all my life, brick by brick, I was in awe. I remember staring at every nook and cranny of house, trying to figure out how everything was built, from the windows to the floor tiles. I had always been fascinated with art, my doodles on the walls were limitless. One day, a friend of my mother’s introduced me to the world of architecture. Upon visiting her home I was entranced by the alien sketches on the giant rolls of paper. I learnt that those were floor plans, and seeked to master the curious symbols that it comprised of. Soon I was drafting designs of my dream house with slides replacing all staircases. I lived in a very rural town surrounded by rainforests. Growing up surrounded my nature, I have always been inclined to more organic designs. Therefore, Alvar Aalto and Oscar Niemeyer’s architecture held great appeal to me. Aalto’s modernist creations ahead of his time with varied materials was my first introduction to the world of architecture and Niemeyer’s use of curves in balance with rectilinear forms made his architecture particularly striking. However, living in such a small town, my choices were limited in secondary education. None of them offered art, which was something I’ve always had a passion for. But I was not deterred, I diligently studied and was offered a scholarship in an International school to study IGCSE, where I found that along with art I had a passion for Physics as well. It was also the first time I had lived in a city. Seeing a skyscraper on a screen in no way compares to the real thing. After my IGCSEs I was offered a second scholarship to study the International Baccalaureate in Kuala Lumpur. I love exploring the city of Kuala Lumpur, even after being here for a year and a half, I still enter buildings and I find myself so engrossed by the designs I forget what it was I had intended to do there. It may not seem like much, but these experiences truly spurred me to love architecture even more. My experience in the multicultural landscape of Malaysia has helped me grow as a person as it brings about people from all walks of life, with different cultures and viewpoints in which we can help each other expand each others minds and outlooks. It also led me to understand the importance of social considerations when designing architecture as well. My humbler origins have also ingrained in me the the importance of being pragmatic. I believe this to be an indispensable quality that should be incorporated hand in hand along with aesthetics. One of the co-curricular activities I particularly enjoy is the public speaking. As a child I tended to be soft spoken. I joined a speech competition to help boost my confidence and as a chance to step out of my comfort zone. It also helped me discover ways to share my passions more freely and discuss exciting and complex ideas with greater ease. I believe the ability to convey one's ideas is essential when aspiring to become an architect. Becoming the vice president of the Toastmasters club also allowed me to push me to the limits of my potential, learn my weaknesses and broaden my horizons. I have learned many valuable lessons in leadership and the importance of being a team player from my experience. Architecture, as a discipline that integrates creativity, pragmatism with an understanding of people and place, it leaves me fascinated. Sociology has helped to develop my ability to visualise and examine concepts and issues of the social world and apply my knowledge of ideas presented in the course and in my other studies to understand why some sociological perspectives think and believe in a certain way. This would have allowed me to take a social perspective when it comes to diagnosing a patient's illness, for example, the impact of a disability on a patient's social identity and relationships. Writing my English Literature coursework has allowed me to work independently; making sure that my work is organised and that I have planned it according to deadlines. I chose to write a narrative piece on Dracula; a task that involved researching and studying the book in detail and considering the different angles from which I could approach the piece. This is a very important skill as whilst doing a medical degree I would need to consider alternative approaches and solutions. Psychology has challenge me to question and develop my understanding of the subject. I particularly found social psychology interesting as it has allowed me to be aware of my behaviour as well as others and also develop my understanding of people. Social psychology is also very important when pursuing a medical degree because it would allow me to communicate better with patients and family members, especially when it comes to explaining what their illness is, so that they are constantly aware of the range of options they have. Building a rapport is very important in medicine because it shows that you have your patients interest at all times. I spent two weeks with a neuroscientist researching the effects of opening and closing ion channels in oligodendrocytes on the level of calcium ion on rats and mice at UCL. The procedure involved extracting the brain and slicing it very carefully into thin pieces before we would incubate them for eight minutes. Then we would apply the electrode and monitor the calcium ion levels in the cell, we would then inject the drugs through the electrodes and monitor the difference it made. This experiment has allowed me to be familiar with empirical scientific methods, and carry out experiments with ease. On important skill that I gained is the ability to plan and carry out scientific experiments, which would allow me to find causal relationships between variables and help with my future studies, as it provides a backbone in carrying out laboratory work. Working as part of a team gave me the opportunity to communicate with different neuroscientists about their current degree of study. In particular, a group conversation allowed me to think about the career options available to me. Although most of them were neuroscientists, they spoke to me about the benefits of their career choices and that had made me want to pursue medicine even more because it would have allowed me to pursue a variety of different paths - all being career options that interested me as they involve working with people with various medical conditions. Learning British Sign Language every week after school not only gave me a valuable life skill but also made me appreciate the importance of communication between individuals and those with certain needs. The ability to convey words and emotions through my hands was a new and stimulating concept; it made me consider how necessary listening to and interpreting people’s actions and words are so that I could respond effectively. I have learnt through my A levels to be committed, organised and able to stick to strict time frames. I feel that I can cope with the pressures of the course and hope to be challenged in my studies. I hope that in completing a medical degree I can support many patients both in their physical pains and through their emotional turmoils. These are the reasons why I believe that I am capable of completing a medical degree.

In order to cope with health problems worldwide, particularly in developing countries, it is necessary to understand the variety of local, regional and global problems while seeking scientifically reliable and socioeconomically feasible ways to solve or mitigate them through research and education. In Sub-Saharan Africa, for example, infectious diseases still causes majority of deaths. The 2006 UN Joint Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) estimated that 63% of all people infected with HIV worldwide (24.7 million) were living in sub-Saharan Africa, and that the majority of deaths globally occurred here (72%, 2.8 million).This clearly shows that there is high burden of infectious diseases within this region which needs immediate attention. However, the region has inadequate health workers who can assist in coming up with effective research to address this problem. This has seen many countries within the region failing to achieve millennium development goals especially goal no 6 aimed at reducing infectious diseases such as HIV/AIDS, Malaria and Tuberculosis. Looking at the Sustainable Development Goals, especially goal no 3, health interventions in this region need to be re-organized in order to meet people’s needs and expectations, so as to make them more socially, relevant and more responsive to the changing world, while producing better outcomes. This can only be achieved by having specialists in the field of Global Health with wide knowledge in infectious diseases like HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria. This is the main purpose that has motivated me to have a desire to study Masters Degree in Global Health so that I can contribute towards improvement of health indicators within my country and in Sub-Saharan African region. It is only health systems staffed with sufficient health workers having the research skills and knowledge that can achieve better health outcomes. I hope by studying Global Health, I will be equipped with such desired knowledge and be able to contribute towards Sustainable Development Goal no 3.3 aiming at ending the epidemics of AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria and neglected tropical diseases and combat hepatitis, water-borne diseases and other communicable diseases by the year 2030 as proposed by United Nations. This is my main objective for applying Global Health course. This ambition can only be achieved by studying with an internationally recognized institution with good reputation. After wide consultation, I have noticed that South East University has that desired quality and can equip me with such knowledge. The institution is said to have all required characters and specialists in this field of my desire. I hope, if considered and offered a place at this institution, my desire will be fulfilled. Therefore, my second objective is to get trained in Global Health from an International recognized institution like yours. My special interest is to acquire knowledge, competencies and attitudes to optimise health care through comprehensive understanding of Global Health issues and measures that can be taken to address health problems in Sub-Saharan Africa in order to promote, restore, and optimise health of the population. This will assist me to meet my plans of becoming an International researcher in Global Health issues. I have also plans of becoming an academician as I will voluntarily work with one of the local medical school so that I should transfer the knowledge I will gain to upcoming health workers in my country.
I desire to study Clinical Medicine (Bachelors Degree) at Southeast University because I’m impressed with the University’s concentration on creating a learning experience that blends research and field work. My interest in this area began in October 2002 when my grandmother passed on of Cervical Cancer. As a five-year old, I wanted to help her stay alive but only realized I did not possess the needed skill. In High School, I volunteered at the School dispensary, thus my exposure to drugs. I had the opportunity to listen to students’ stories of drug abuse and misuse. It occurred to me how much lives are lost through improper medication. I encouraged students not to self-medicate and to always seek early medical attention. While in school, I received a number of awards at the Speech and Prize giving day of my High school. They are ‘Best student in Biology, Mathematics and Social Studies, 2013’. According to the World Health Organization, about 100,000 deaths are linked to counterfeit drug trade in Africa yearly. The British Policy Think Tank, International Policy Network estimates that globally, 900,000 lives are lost to fake malaria and tuberculosis drugs. It is however refreshing to note that global manufacturer of generic drugs and the maker of the award-winning anti-malarial drug, Artemisinin, has joined the fight against Fake and substandard drugs. As a socio-cultural being, I love to visit new places, meet new people and learn about new cultures. I volunteer in my community by teaching younger students and supervising their assignments. To advance active, I actively search for local seminars around my career interest. In January 2017, I attended the Neuro Girl Camp, a STEM Programme where I learnt how to make a ‘Fly Catcher’ using a bottle and sugar. To achieve this, I pursued General Science in high school, studying Biology, Chemistry, and Physics as majors. My aim is to become a leading clinical doctor, helping to advance research and promote good health. I believe that, from the above, you will quickly realize my ability to contribute to the community at Southeast University.
