(1) The applicant must be a foreign citizen.
(2) The applicant who is studying for an undergraduate course shall obtain a degree or certificate equivalent to that of a Chinese senior high school graduate, aged under 30 years old.
(3) No other scholarship was awarded.

Program Description

1. Program Objectives

Editor Notes: After learning this major, graduates will gain knowledge from at least 3 disciplines.

The program will culminate in a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree. Graduates will gain knowledge from nursing, humanities, and other sciences and disciplines; apply concepts and knowledge of leadership, teaching, quality improvement and patient safety in nursing; provide nursing interventions based on research findings and evidence; use critical thinking to provide holistic care across lifespan in a variety of healthcare centres.

2. Education Standard

Editor Notes: International students will graduate successfully upon meeting the following requirements.

Upon the completion of the program, the graduate is to meet the requirements as follows:

1. Knowledge: the graduate should have a basic understanding of nursing related natural science, humanities and social science, master the knowledge about nursing theory, human anatomy, physiology, pathology, pharmacology; the effect of biology, psychology, social factors in the development of disease; the nursing procedure for patients with common disease and critical illness; the psychological characteristics of various patients and corresponding interventions; the health promotion for people across lifespan; a basic understanding of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

2. Quality: The graduate should demonstrate high-level professionalism, show great respect toward life, culture, belief, religion and custom; highlight innovation, critical thinking and self-directed learning; value the team-work, work collaboratively with co-workers from other disciplines; have the idea of the cost-effectiveness.

3. Skill and Ability: The graduate should have the basic skills and abilities in communicating with patients across lifespan and professionals from other disciplines; apply nursing procedure and techniques to provide high-quality holistic care to 12 different patients; apply nursing research skills to provide evidence-based nursing; provide prevention and health care in the community level; have certain communication ability with Chinese language.

3 .Core Courses

The introduction to nursing (nursing theory, history), Human anatomy, Physiology, Fundamentals of Nursing-Ⅰ &Ⅱ ,Pharmacology, Pathology, Health assessment and promotion, Medical Nursing-Ⅰ &Ⅱ , Surgical Nursing Ⅰ &Ⅱ , Emergency Nursing, Maternal and infant care, Nursing care of children, Mental health nursing, Clinical Practice.

4. Learning and Teaching Strategy

Editor Notes: High-fidelity patient simulation and case study will help students to learn this major deeply.

The programme consists of two semesters and 16 weeks in duration per annum. Block periods of study will be followed by block periods of practice. Each 16 contact hours convert to 1 credit point (The ratio between contact hours and self-directed learning hours are 1:2-3). High-fidelity patient simulation will be systematically used to enable students to develop confidence in their practice skills within a safe and controlled environment. Case study will be integrated to offer students the opportunity to rehearse and enhance psychomotor skills.

5. Clinical Practice and Internship

Editor Notes: 36 hours/week's clinical practice will enable students to apply the theoretical learning and consult with clinical tutors.

It includes Clinical Practice in semester Ⅲ, Ⅳ,Ⅴ, Ⅵ, Internship. International students will work 36 hours per week in clinical practice, which enables them to apply the theoretical learning and consult with clinical tutors.

Practice Placements

The school collaborates with three key hospitals for the programme, and these hospitals have qualified clinical mentors for international students. These placement areas are selected and monitored with caution to ensure that they are conducive to the achievement of the learning outcomes. Evidence based nursing practice is a core aspect of the curriculum. Awareness of this will be endorsed through the careful collaboration between academic staff and clinical mentors in guiding and helping students.

Academic support for students/mentors in placements

Clinical Practice Facilitators will be assigned for international students in every placement throughout the programme. They will meet regularly with their students individually and in groups in the practice placement.

Assessment of practice.

The clinical mentor will evaluate students' theoretical and clinical performance. All students must pass both components to pass the unit.

6. The Requirements for Graduation

Editor Notes: After meeting graduation requirements, students will be awarded Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).

1.Length of Schooling:The length of schooling is flexible, generally it lasts four years,or up to six years.

2.Degree Conferred: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).

3.The Minimum Graduation Credits:120.

4.Pass HSK 4 (new format):minimum score 180.

7. The curriculum and distribution of credits

1. Curriculum: Most courses are composed of theoretical and practical teaching. Core courses are compulsory, and students may choose some elective courses from other discipline, which is not compulsory.

Note:
1. *Compulsory Courses. The total credits of compulsory and elective courses are 160.
2. Students who have passed HSK3(new format) will be exempt from Elementary Chinese, Elementary Chinese Listening and Speaking; Students who have passed HSK4(new format) will be exempt from Elementary Chinese, Elementary Chinese Listening and Speaking, Intermediate Chinese, Intermediate Chinese Listening and Speaking. Those students can get the credits of corresponding courses after confirmation.
3. Theoretical teaching: 1 credit equals 16 teaching hours(45min/teaching hour);
Clinical Practice & Internship: 1 credit equals 1 weeks practice.
