About the major
Diplomacy
In 1999, this major started to recruit undergraduate students, becoming one of the earliest interdisciplinary majors in BFSU.
In 2003, it was authorized to confer master degree.
In 2004, it started to recruit graduate students and overseas graduate students, becoming the first department in Beijing to offer MA degree for a non-language major.
In 2009, attached to this major, the BFSU-CCPIT base was awarded Beijing off-school talents cultivation base.
In 2010, it became the first one of all the similar majors to be awarded by the Ministry of Education the distinctive specialty at state level.
In 2011, it started to recruit overseas undergraduate students.

Training objective
Based on the idea of cultivating interdisciplinary talents with international vision, we cultivate all-round diplomatic talents with a global vision, excellent professional and language skills, inter-cultural communication skills, as well as high comprehensive quality, who are qualified to cope with the foreign affairs, diplomatic affaires and international publicity.
Training requirement
This major mainly focus on the basic theory and knowledge of diplomacy, along with the training on the basic knowledge of social science, professional investigation, research and writing in terms of both Chinese and English, offering students the basic ability for diplomacy and foreign affairs.
Students activities and social practice
Undergraduate students from this major win more than ten awards every year in the city level competition such as the International Model United Nations and the National Diplomatic Foreign Affairs Etiquette Competition.
The Star of Diplomats Etiquette Competition started and sponsored by our department has been held in seven consecutive terms, which enjoys great reputation among Beijing HEIs.
BFLU have more than ten intern bases such as Xinhua Press, Chinese Football Association, Chinese Council for the Promotion of International Trade, UN Associations of China, Beijing Foreign Affairs Office, Davos Forum, China News Service, and Beijing Association for Science and Technology Commission.
Future jobs
With strong professional background, bilingual advantages, and social practical ability, students graduate from this department shows a very strong strength in employment and further study both in and out of China.
In recent five years, the employment rate and employment level of our students are relatively very high. Most of them are employed by diplomatic and foreign affairs departments, media institutes, financial institutes, international enterprises and HEIs, etc.
About one third graduates would pursue further study overseas each year in the world-class universities, such as Oxford and Cambridge.
