The international program of Machine Design, Manufacturing and Automation is undertaken by the SMSE, which brings together all the most talents and best equipments to present the professional instruction in English for the international students. Relying on Hong Kong industrial charitable foundation, the school jointly trains graduate students with Aachen German University of technology, the University of Warwick, Liverpool University, University of Washington, and Worcester of University.

Besides, SMSE has set up a course structure special for the international students to meet the need of their requirements. Though newly established, it has attracted many interests from all over the world thanks to the unquestioned advantage in its teaching staff.

Core curriculum:

Fundamentals of Engineering Control, Material Mechanics, Engineering Mechanics, Engineering Measurement Technology, Fluid Mechanics, Machine Design, Advanced Design Methodology, Machinery Manufacturing Equipment and Technology, Machine Vision and Applications, Fundamentals of Robotics, etc.

Mechanical Science and Technology is one of the broadest and most versatile of the engineering professions. This can be seen in the portfolio of current activities in the departments.

Now, our Huazhong University of Science and Technology's faculty are involved in projects ranging from the use of mechatronic engineering to develop advanced manufacturing to the creation of multi-legged robots; from the design of mechanical products to the development of advance numerical equipment and technology.

Teaching Objective

This specialty fosters high-ranking engineering talents of product and equipment measurement, production process control, product quality assurance technology, and special equipment design and development in a variety of industries of manufacturing, energy, transportation, chemical engineering, medicine, and agriculture and forestry. The talents of this specialty possess solid mathematical and scientific basic knowledge with basic skills of light, mechanical, electrical, computer applications and other important and extensive technologies to benefit for the further work and research.

Our undergraduate programs combine a broad-based education in the mechanical science and engineering with a strong grounding in advanced manufacturing, problem solution, mechanical design, and communications skills.

By emphasizing both classic and creative methods, SMSE gives students the broad skills set which they can use to pursue their goals—working as an engineer, founding a company, continuing on to further study and research of mechanical engineering or other majors. We train independent learning by hands-on laboratory and manufacturing projects, and we help our students grow as talents with the spirit of striving, teamwork, agility, and responsibility.

School of Mechanical Science and Engineering Introduction

This program is taught by School of Mechanical Science and Engineering,which founded in 1593, the School of Mechanical Science and Engineering has the same history with HUST of over 60 years with 71 professors and 80 associate professors. It has won more than 50 national awards, owned more than 300 patents, fostered 7 high-tech industry companies in these years. The SMSE has held more than 10 international and domestic academic meetings and has carried out over 10 international joint research projects, as well as establishing an extensive cooperation in education and research with many renowned universities, research institutes and companies in America, Britain, Japan, Korea, Russia Australia, Singapore and so on. In 2014, SMSE has over 2000 undergraduates and 1250 graduates, including more than 100 international students.

1. Graduating high school students or obtained a senior high school diploma, physically and mentally healthy foreigners.

2. According to the regulations released by Ministry of Education, China, if parent(s) was (were) a Chinese citizen settling in a foreign country at the time applicants were born, applicants must have obtained their current foreign citizenship before April 30, 2019. In addition, the applicant must have lived outside China for at least 2 years during the period between April 30, 2019 and April 30, 2023 (The actual residence in a foreign country for 9 months in a year can be counted as one year, subject to the entry and exit signatures). This requirement shall also be met by those who apply for undergraduate study as international students after immigrating from Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan and obtaining foreign nationality.
