Objectives

Applicants should have positive working and studying behavior, and love the country and people. Strict truth-seeking attitude with solid theoretical knowledge on the area of study is required and able to conduct the scientific research or to solve the engineering problems independently are the important abilities for the successful applicants. Good understanding on the research activities and development tendency of transportation engineering, railway engineering, airport engineering, transportation management engineering, and transportation information and control engineering is a plus for the candidates. The successful candidate will also be expect to have the profession and management skill in transportation engineering related areas, and be able to complete the research work with creative achievements. Applicants are expect to fluent in at least one foreign language and be able to find the reference in the areas of profession, and have the capability of international academic communication.

Basic Requirements

Courses Requirements: All courses are teaching in English, at least obtaining 15 credits after the semester (6 credits public courses, 4 credits major courses, 2 credits non-degree courses, and 3 credits on compulsory activity.)

Degree thesis Requirements: Each student must complete the dissertation independently under supervisor. The dissertation should demonstrate that the student has completed the requirements on the “Training Object”. The dissertation can in English or other languages with the approval of Degree Committee and Graduate School, and the Chinese abstract must be contained in the dissertation.

Academic thesis Requirements: graduate student must publish the subject field related journal papers, and the doctor student should be list as the first author (including supervisor is the first author and the applicant is the second author) or the corresponding author of the International academic journals. The institution of applicant must be Tongji University. At least one journal paper should be included in SCI or three articles published on the School publications within the specified directory and are included in EI. If the student has finished the training plan but hasn’t met the academic thesis requirements, the student can apply degree thesis defense after the verification and qualification by the Discipline Committee and graduate. The degree application process in accordance with the “Regulation on the Academic Thesis Published by the Master and Doctoral Degree Applicants of Tongji University” rule no. 6.

Road and Airport Engineering, Railway Engineering, The Theory Developments of Road Engineering, Current Advances and Academic Frontier in Railway Engineering, Traffic Control System Theory, Methodology of Analysis of Traffic Information Engineering System, Rail Transit Information and Automatic Control, Analysis and Optimization of Transportation System, Advanced Transportation Network Flow Theory and Analysis Methods.

Graduate and award degree: Ph.D degree in “Engineering”.

1. Non-Chinese citizen in good health both mentally and physically.

2. Applicants for Ph.D. program should have a Master degree.

3. Applicant must stay in good academic standing.

4. International students from non-English speaking countries：The electronic copy of language proficiency certificate. TOEFL (minimum 80/120) or IELTS (minimum 6). The certificate should be valid when submitted.

If the certificate is not in Chinese or English, the original notarized translated versions must be submitted.
The certificate should be notarized by local Chinese Embassy or local Chinese Consulates (or foreign embassies or consulates in China).
Certificate of expected graduation issued by current academic institution (for applicants who will be graduating after current academic year only and must be the Original copy). Degree certificate is required to be verified; and notarized documents related to the degree certificate must be submitted at the registration.

*6. Original or notarized academic transcripts of the master program.

If the academic transcripts are not in Chinese or English, the original notarized translated document must be submitted.
The transcript should be notarized by local Chinese Embassy or local Chinese Consulates (or foreign embassies or consulates in China).

*7. Physical health report issued within the last six months or valid Chinese visa

Original recommendation letters from two professors or associate professors (contact information is necessary).

*9. Personal statement

Around 1500 words for doctoral program, in Chinese (Chinese- taught programs) or English (English-taught programs). Study and work experience, academic research achievement, planned research proposal and personal prospect after graduation should be included.

*10. Catalogue and abstract of published papers and any other material that can prove your academic research ability.

11. Other supporting materials

Such as approve letter from supervisor in Tongji, award certificates, admission notice from other universities, etc.

12. Supporting Documents: Certificate of Good Conduct

Provided by your current/previous school/company in Chinese/English to improve your success rate.
