1. Training Objectives

5. Scientific research and thesis work

5.1 After 20 credits for the doctoral and 68 credits for the master-doctoral, students can start preparing Ph.D. thesis.
The basic theoretical research papers can be a fundamental research, and also be applied basic research, with China's economic construction and social development linked. Ph.D. thesis which under the guidance of instructors should be independently completed papers in the relevant disciplines, the selection of subjects allow to emerging encourage cross-disciplinary work, but should reach the forefront of academic and theoretical creativity.

5.2 Doctoral student in the school must finish the opening of that report within one year after
enrollment, the written report should not be less than 8000 words, at least 50 articles cited literature. And the report should be open, interdisciplinary topics related disciplines should have Professor (4), Associate Professor (3) to attended. Papers in the second phase report third semester or academic year for three academic years the first semester. Choose supervisor online when choosing a major in the online application system and get accepted by a prospective professor.

Please note that it is not required to choose supervisor for the programs of School of Economics. The School will arrange soon after registration at Shanghai University.

Relevant undergraduate academic background is required, with GPA 3.0 or above (Note: 4-Point GPA System);

Students applying to programs of arts must have relative academic background and submit a portfolio. Please refer to detailed application requirements under the program introduction on application website.

*3. Highest Degree Official Transcripts

Academic Transcripts in languages other than Chinese or English should be translated into Chinese or English and be certified by notarization. Both original and official English translated version are required.
For applicants who haven’t graduated, pending graduation certificate and transcripts available till the application date are also acceptable. Official graduation certificate and transcripts of all grades shall be submitted timely after being received.

*5. Personal Statement (including study plan and research proposal in China)

Written in English or Chinese (according to the teaching language of the program), more than 800 words, including research achievements so far (e.g. title and abstracts of graduation thesis or published paper), reasons of choosing SHU, study and research plan, future career plan, etc.

*6. Academic Research Documents

Publication of academic papers and patent certificate, Note: Applicants who apply for a Ph.D. in the School of Management must have a background in management science or science and engineering and have published at least one academic paper in SCI or SSCI journals at the time of application.
Applicants for art majors should provide at least two examples of artworks.

*8. Selfie video

Applicants should submit a video including self-introduction and study plan in China. avi, mov, or mp4 less than 50 MB are accepted. The language of the video should be consistent with the language of the program you are applying for (English or Chinese).

*9. ID photo

The passport-size photo (one-inch, 390*570) should be taken within the last six months, bareheaded, full-faced with blue-color background; the photo is required to submit as JPG image less than 100kb.
