To be eligible, applicants should be non-Chinese citizens with a valid ordinary-type passport, and in good health.

If you are applying for English-taught programs:

IELTS (A) 6.5 or TOEFL IBT 90 or above received within the recent two years（TOEFL MyBestTM &TOEFL essentials Scores accepted）.

Other internationally recognized English proficiency tests with scores of the same level and proof of certificates is needed.

TOEFL or IELTS Exemptions

The following types of applicants are exempt from taking the TOEFL or IELTS:

• Native speakers of English;

The previous degree is fully taught in English.

Be a Master's degree holder;

Graduates who did not receive their degree certificates at the time of application should provide pre-graduation certificates issued by their schools or colleges to prove their ability to graduate smoothly and obtain their degree certificates by the end of July 2022.

Accepted by a prospective professor at Shanghai University

Choose supervisor online when choosing a major in the online application system and get accepted by a prospective professor.

Please note that it is not required to choose supervisor for the programs of School of Economics. The School will arrange soon after registration at Shanghai University.

Relevant undergraduate academic background is required, with GPA 3.0 or above （Note: 4-Point GPA System）；

Students applying to programs of arts must have relative academic background and submit a portfolio. Please refer to detailed application requirements under the program introduction on application website.

The passport-size photo (one-inch, 390*570) should be taken within the last six months, bareheaded, full-faced with blue-color background; the photo is required to submit as JPG image less than 100kb.

*3. Information Page of Passport

A clear copy of your valid passport with your name, photo, birth date, place of birth, date of issue, date of expiry; Visa page is required for applicants who are currently in China. Visa page is required for applicants who are not in their home country.

*4. Highest Degree Certificate

Certificate in languages other than Chinese or English should be translated into Chinese or English and be certified by notarization. Both original and official English translated version are required.
For applicants who haven’t graduated, pending graduation certificate and transcripts available till the application date are also acceptable. Official graduation certificate and transcripts of all grades shall be submitted timely after being received.

IELTS 6.0 or TOEFL IBT 80 or above received within the recent two years.

*6. Two recommendation letters

Written in English or Chinese by two different professors or associate professors from previous academic institutions, or work supervisors, etc. The referee’s signature and contact information are necessary.

*7. Highest Degree Official Transcripts

Academic Transcripts in languages other than Chinese or English should be translated into Chinese or English and be certified by notarization. Both original and official English translated version are required.

*8. Statement of Financial Support

Certificate of your family financial situation background. You need to go to the bank to issue a deposit of your family financial situation.

*9. Academic Research Documents

Publication of academic papers and patent certificate, Note: Applicants who apply for a Ph.D. in the School of Management must have a background in management science or science and engineering and have published at least one academic paper in SCI or SSCI journals at the time of application. Applicants for art majors should provide at least two examples of artworks.

*10. Supervisor Acceptance Letter

Please note that it is not required to choose supervisor for School of Economics.

For any applicants who can not get the Certificate of No Criminal Record at home country, please sign the No criminal record Commitment with Shanghai University.

*12. Selfie video

Applicants should submit a video including self-introduction and study plan in China. avi, mov, or mp4 less than 50 MB are accepted. The language of the video should be consistent with the language of the program you are applying for (English or Chinese).

*13. Personal Statement (including study plan and research proposal in China)

Written in English or Chinese (according to the teaching language of the program), more than 800 words, including research achievements so far (e.g. title and abstracts of graduation thesis or published paper), reasons of choosing SHU, study and research plan, future career plan, etc.

14. Supporting Documents: Certificate of Good Conduct

Provided by your current/previous school/company in Chinese/English to improve your success rate.
