1. Program Overview

Editor Notes: This program develops the skills necessary to work in the fields of international marketing and international investment.

This program is established on the fundamental economics and emphasizes on the theories and policies of international economics, international trade, and overseas investment in the global economy, as well as on the operation of international trade and overseas investment in real world practices .

3. Graduation​

Editor Notes: After completing this program, students can be equipped with solid foundation of field theory on international economics and trade, skills required for practices on international trade and investment, and skills of multicultural communication. 

Graduates are expected to acquire knowledge and capabilities as follows: The basic theories behind economics, commerce, finance, managementand accounting. Understand the economic and trade policies in major countries and districts as well as the current theories of international economics and trade. Have a deep understanding of current economic and social issues, which is guided by their broad international outlook to be capable of making economic analysis and decisions, international business negotiations, and practicing import and export operations.

Shanghai University is one of the key universities in the "Project 211". The current president of the university is Professor CHIEN Weichang, a famous educator, scientist, social activist and member of Chinese Academy of Sciences. The Party Secretary of Shanghai University is Professor YU Xinhui and the Executive Vice President is Professor ZHOU Zhewei. 5. About College of International Exchange (CIE)

Editor Notes: CIE is an important window showcasing the cooperation and communication between Shanghai University and the international communities. 

• Be responsible for the enrollment and administration of all international students, providing services for visas, accommodation and emergency aids, etc.
• Dedicated to the teaching and research of Chinese language and culture as well as the coordination for the affiliated Confucius Institutes abroad.
• Offers all kinds of short- or long-term courses of Chinese language, culture, and economics, and also a variety of optional courses and special lectures.

Note: According to the regulations of the Ministry of Education of China, those who emigrated to other countries from the Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao or Taiwan and applying to study in Shanghai University as international students, should meet the following additional requirements: the applicants must hold valid passport or other relevant international recognized documents for at least 4 years; meanwhile, in the latest 4 years (by each April 30th of the year of University registration), the applicants must have lived overseas for 2 years (Living overseas for 9 months can be converted to 1 year, which is subject to the exit-entry stamp on visa).

If you are applying for English-taught programs:

IELTS (A) 6.5 or TOEFL IBT 90 or above received within the recent two years (TOEFL MyBest^TM Scores and TOEFL essentials accepted).

We also accept other internationally recognized English proficiency tests with scores of the same level and proof of certificates is needed.

TOEFL or IELTS Exemptions

The following types of applicants are exempt from taking the TOEFL or IELTS:

● Native speakers of English;

● The previous degree is fully taught in English.

Academic Requirement

High school graduate with GPA 3.0 or above (Note: 4-Point GPA System);

For Science and Engineering programs, applicants are qualified in mathematics and physics in high school. Some programs also require computer programming courses record, such as digital media technology and film making;

For Economics and Management programs, applicants are qualified in mathematics in high school;

For Arts programs, applicants must have related academic background and are required to submit the portfolio (such as paintings, story scripts, short movies, etc.).

The passport-size photo (one-inch, 390*570) should be taken within the last six months, bareheaded, full-faced with blue-color background; the photo is required to submit as JPG image less than 100kb.

*4. Information Page of Passport

A clear copy of your valid passport with your name, photo, birth date, place of birth, date of issue, date of expiry; Visa page is required for applicants who are currently in China.

*5. Highest Degree Certificate

Graduation certificate in languages other than Chinese or English should be translated into Chinese or English and be certified by notarization.
For applicants who haven’t graduated, pending graduation certificate available till the application date is also acceptable. Official graduation certificate shall be submitted timely after being received.

*6. English proficiency certificates TOFEL or IELTS

No requirement for applicants: English as native language; English as official language; Graduated from high school in English countries;

*7. Highest Degree Official Transcripts

Transcripts in languages other than Chinese or English should be translated into Chinese or English and be certified by notarization. For applicants who haven’t graduated, pending graduation certificate and transcripts available till the application date are also acceptable. Official graduation certificate and transcripts of all grades shall be submitted timely after being received.

Certificate of your family financial situation background. You need to go to the bank to issue a deposit of your family financial situation.

*9. Personal Statement (including study plan and research proposal in China)

Written in English or Chinese (according to the teaching language of the program), including research achievements so far (e.g. title and abstracts of graduation thesis or published paper), reasons of choosing SHU, study and research plan, future career plan, etc.

*10. Certificate of No Criminal Record

For any applicants who cannot get the Certificate of No Criminal Record at home country, please sign the No criminal record Commitment with Shanghai University

*11. Selfie video

Applicants should submit a video including self-introduction and study plan in China. avi, mov, or mp4 less than 50 MB are accepted. The language of the video should be consistent with the language of the program you are applying for (English or Chinese).

Provided by your current/previous school/company in Chinese/English to improve your success rate.
