1. Programme Overview

Editor Notes: Physics is one of the three oldest disciplines in ZJNU and this program has excellent tutors which 80% of them have Ph.D.

The physics discipline which is one of the three oldest disciplines in ZJNU was established in 1956. Up to the year of 2013, it has three undergraduate disciplines: Physics, Optical Information Science and Technology and Materials Science and Technology. There are totally 48 postgraduate tutors, more than 80% of them had Ph. D. We have educated more than 700 graduate students until 2010.

Master's degree in physics offers research program, and provides advanced knowledge in core areas of physics, including Theoretical Physics, Condensed Matter Physics, Optics, Acoustics and Functional Materials Physics and Devices, as well as one or more sub-areas of physics that correspond to your individual interests and career aspirations. You'll work with program faculty to develop a tailored individual academic plan that supports your individual career aspirations.

Editor Notes: This program is a research-focused master program and is suitable for students seeking graduate training in fundamental and/or applied areas of physics.

The master program in physics is designed to provide flexible options that can be tailored to the specific career goals and disciplinary interests of students seeking graduate training in fundamental and/or applied areas of physics. The program is suitable as either a means to further career development or as preparation for further graduate study, with opportunities for an international academic exchange, pursuing their Ph.D. in either domestic or international institutes, or working in Schools, or working in an enterprise engaged in product research and development.

We offer research-focused master program of 3 years (no more than 5 years). Students will conduct research and produce a thesis as part of their studies.

The notes for academic activity：

1. Every graduate student must give at least two public academic reports for graduate student of this discipline during the graduate and should participate in the public academic report at least 5 times every term. It will be the basis that whether graduate student gets enough credits for compulsory courses (Academic Activity（To participate in academic lectures and academic researches for 10 times and do academic report twice）).

2. Every graduate student should attend at least once domestic academic conference and do an academic report oral or poster during the graduate. The related materials should be submitted to the graduate secretary of the discipline and be archived.

5. Basic Requirements of the Degree Thesis

Editor Notes: To graduate successfully, students are required to meet the following requirements of degree thesis.

A. The student must select an advisor after admission and acquire 9 school credits.

B. The student must present an acceptable thesis of original scientific research in physics and defend it orally before the defense committee.

1. Applicant should be aged between 18 and 35 (born after September 1, 1988);

2. Applicant should be non-Chinese citizens with valid regular foreign passport and be friendly to China;

 *Residents of China who have emigrated to a foreign country and who are now applying to study in China as international students must have held a valid foreign passport for at least 4 years, and must have actually resided in a foreign country for at least 2 years in the past 4 years (as of April 30, 2023). (9 months of residence in a foreign country may count as a full year. The dates of the entry and exit stamps in the passport will be followed in the determination of the actual length of foreign residence).

3. Applicant should hold a bachelor diploma with a satisfactory academic record;

 (1).applicants who apply for English tauht programs should have a TOEFL score above 80 or IELTS score above 5.5;

 (2). Master of Translation Program offers specialty in English-Chinese, Japnese-Chinese translation;

 *English-Chinese translation specialty requires: TOEFL score above 80 or IELTS above 5.5;

 *Japnese-Chinese translation requires: JSPT 2 or JLPT 2.

 *Both specialties requires HSK5.

 (3). Foreign Language and Literature program offers specialty in English language and literature, Japanese language and literature, French language and literature, foreign linguistics and applied linguistics,foreign language curriculum and teacher education;

 *language requirement for specialty of English langauge, literature and foreign linguistics and applied linguistics,foreign language curriculum and teacher education: TOEFL score above 80 or IELTS above 5.5;

 *Japnese language and literature requires: JSPT 2 or JLPT 2.

 *French language and literature requries:la spécialité Langue et Littérature Françaises doit avoir le niveau B2 d’après le CECRL

5. Applicant should have no criminal record and no drug addiction history;

6. Aplicant should be in good health and have no serious infectious diseases.

*9. Two recommendation letters

Signed by professors or associate professors, written in Chinese or English.

*10. Physical examination record for foreigner

Complete it in Chinese or English, The physical examinations must cover all the items listed in the Foreigner Physical Examination Form. Incomplete records or those without the signature of the attending physician, the official stamp of the hospital or a sealed photograph of the applicants are invalid. Please select the appropriate time to take physical examination as the result is valid for only 6 months.
