1. Program Description

Editor Notes: The program is specially designed for participants from Africa, Asia and other developing countries and shared interest in improved equity and quality in education.

Zhejiang Normal University (ZJNU), founded in 1956, is a key provincial university in China with distinguished programs in Education and African Studies.

From 2015 spring semester, ZJNU had initiated a two-year Master on Comparative Education Program, approved by the Ministry of Education, the People's Republic of China. This program is financially supported by the Chinese government. Its mission is to provide academic and professional training in comparative education, to pursue academic excellence as well as the practical application of education policy and innovative education research. The program is specially designed for participants from Africa, Asia and other developing countries and shared interest in improved equity and quality in education for all, vitally important to sustainable national development.

2. Program Objectives

Editor Notes:  Through learning, students can accumulate basic knowledge, understand current situation and focused issue in education field and can do research independently.

1. Students will accumulate basic knowledge about international education development, comparative education research, education policy analysis and African education research, develop problem identifying and problem solving capacity, master the elementary method and procedure of scientific research;

2. Students will understand the current situation and focused issues in education research, which will help them to get their own research interests and focus;

3. Students will have opportunity to practice the knowledge and skills. They will learn how to conduct education research independently.

3. Program Mode/Structure

Editor Notes: There are three parts in this program, including curriculum, educational practice and graduation thesis.

1. Curriculum: It's mainly about lectures or presentations, with a mix of seminars, group discussions, tutorials, case studies and so on.

2. Educational Practice: Students will start a half-year educational practice in the 3rd semester, such as education internship, education investigation or education survey.

3. Graduation Thesis: Students are required to finish a graduation thesis in English up to the master standard. Graduation thesis should be submitted and defended in the middle of the 4th semester.

4. Program Courses

Editor Notes: Students need to complete 35 credits in this program.

Students are required to finish the full time course-work, thesis writing and thesis defense by the end of the academic year.

5. Graduation and Degree Requirements

Editor Notes: Students are required to complete required credits and graduation thesis then they will be awarded a Master degree.

1. Credit: No less than 34 credits are required, including 2 general courses(8 credits), 5 core courses (13 credits), 2 compulsory items (8 credits), and no less than 5 credits for optional courses. 1 credit equals 18 class hours.

2. Graduation Thesis: Students should select a topic for the thesis under the direction of his/here supervisor, usually in the 2nd semester. The thesis should be written in English, at least 20 thousand words. The thesis should be submitted for oral defense in the middle of the 4th semester.

3. Certificate: Students completing the credits, graduation thesis and oral defense will be awarded a master degree by the academic degree evaluation committee in the university.

1. Applicant should be aged between 18 and 35 (born after September 1, 1988);

2. Applicant should be non-Chinese citizens with valid regular foreign passport and be friendly to China;

 *Residents of China who have emigrated to a foreign country and who are now applying to study in China as international students must have held a valid foreign passport for at least 4 years, and must have actually resided in a foreign country for at least 2 years in the past 4 years (as of April 30, 2023). (9 months of residence in a foreign country may count as a full year. The dates of the entry and exit stamps in the passport will be followed in the determination of the actual length of foreign residence).

3. Applicant should hold a bachelor diploma with a satisfactory academic record;

4. Language requriement:

 (1).applicants who apply for English tauht programs should have a TOEFL score above 80 or IELTS score above 5.5;

 (2). Master of Translation Program offers specialty in English-Chinese, Japnese-Chinese translation;

 *English-Chinese translation specialty requires: TOEFL score above 80 or IELTS above 5.5;

 *Japnese-Chinese translation requires: JSPT 2 or JLPT 2.

 *Both specialties requires HSK5.

 (3). Foreign Language and Literature program offers specialty in English language and literature, Japanese language and literature, French language and literature, foreign linguistics and applied linguistics,foreign language curriculum and teacher education;

 *language requirement for specialty of English langauge, literature and foreign linguistics and applied linguistics,foreign language curriculum and teacher education: TOEFL score above 80 or IELTS above 5.5;

 *Japnese language and literature requires: JSPT 2 or JLPT 2.

 *French language and literature requries:la spécialité Langue et Littérature Françaises doit avoir le niveau B2 d’après le CECRL

5. Applicant should have no criminal record and no drug addiction history;

6. Aplicant should be in good health and have no serious infectious diseases.

*9. Two recommendation letters

Signed by professors or associate professors, written in Chinese or English.

*10. Physical examination record for foreigner

Complete it in Chinese or English, The physical examinations must cover all the items listed in the Foreigner Physical Examination Form. Incomplete records or those without the signature of the attending physician, the official stamp of the hospital or a sealed photograph of the applicants are invalid. Please select the appropriate time to take physical examination as the result is valid for only 6 months.
