Program Description

1.Why choose Chinese Language Program:

The Chinese Language Program is offered to students who love Chinese language and culture,or wish to study degree programs delivered in Chinese. In the past decade, SDUST has received more than 1000 international students for long-term Chinese language and culture courses, and over 800 international students for short-term courses. SDUST boasts rich teaching experience accumulated through years of practice, as well as an efficient model of teaching management, a top class faculty, advanced facilities, scientific teaching methods, and satisfying teaching results etc. All of these have earned SDUST a good reputation among its counterparts both at home and abroad, among students and their parents. The Chinese Language Program has now become the driving force for the international exchange and cooperation programs at SDUST.

SDUST offers elementary, intermediate and advanced Chinese language courses. Students will be arranged into different course levels based on the placement test.

2. Training Goal 

Editor Notes: This program is to enhance students' levels of Chinese language.

  • Students should be linguistically and culturally competent in Mandarin Chinese.
  • Students will be given appropriate courses according their placement tests.

3. Program Introduction

Editor Notes: Chinese programs are divided into elementary, intermediate, and advanced levels with 10-15 students in each class.

  • Students will have Language classes normally for four hours daily, five days per week.
  • Students will take part in lectures, small group drills, conversation sessions, and individual practice sessions. 
  • The four main language skills which are reading, writing, speaking, and listening will be taught.
  • This program will offer elective courses in Taiji, Chinese Calligraphy, and Brush Painting. 

 

4. Program Structure

DSUST offers elementary, intermediate and advanced Chinese language courses. Students will be arranged into different course levels based on the placement test. All courses last for one year (2 semesters). Application for half a year's study (one semester) is also accepted.

​​4.4 Chinese tutoring

Chinese teachers will check students' studying progress and answer questions once a week.

This tutoring offers the students with a chance to use their Chinese and solve problems on studying.

​​4.5 HSK Test

Students who finish the elementary course are expected to reach HSK Level 4, and are able to take a bachelor degree course (offered in Chinese) in science, engineering, agriculture, medicine, economics, law, management, education.

Students who finish the intermediate course are expected to reach HSK Level 5, and are able to take bachelor degree courses (offered in Chinese) in Chinese language and culture, history, philosophy, Chinese traditional medicine etc.

Students who finish the advanced course are expected to reach HSK Level 6, and are able to take master and doctoral degree courses in higher education institutions in China.They are also capable of using the Chinese language in daily life.
