The Institute for Financial & Accounting Studies (IFAS) at Xiamen University is the only “985 Project” platform in accounting and finance designated by China’s Ministry of Education.
The mission of the IFAS is to conduct original research and internationalized teaching. Since its establishment in 2005, the IFAS has recruited its faculty members from the Ph.D. graduates of research universities in the United States, United Kingdom, Japan, Singapore, Australia, Belgium, Netherlands, New Zealand, Hong Kong, and Mainland China. Members of the faculty have published in the Accounting Review, Journal of Accounting Research, Contemporary Accounting Research, International Journal of Accounting, Financial Management, Journal of Corporate Finance, Journal of Banking and Finance, Journal of Empirical Finance, Journal of Financial Research, Advances in Econometrics, and Applied Financial Economics, etc.
The institute has internationalized curriculums for both Master’s and doctoral programs in accounting and finance, and regularly invites outside senior scholars, practitioners, and government officials to give lectures or speeches. Master’s graduates either study in doctoral programs in domestic or foreign institutions or work in major companies in the industry. The institute regularly hosts summer schools, doctoral student consortium, and international conferences in accounting and finance. In addition, the institute has year-round enrollment of 1+1 joint master programs in finance and/or accounting with American top universities, such as University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC), whose MAS program ranks No.2 in US, and Tulane University, whose MFin program ranks No.4 in US, as well as Massey University in New Zealand, and Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology University (RMIT) in Australia.
1. Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens generally under the age of 45 (as of September 1, 2023), be mentally and pysically healthy, and possess a valid regular passport.
Note: Foreign citizens of Chinese origin, including former Chinese citizens who have obtained foreign citizenship, as well as the non-Chinese descendants of present or former Chinese citizens, will be subject to a preliminary review of citizenship status by XMU during the admission stage, and to verification of citizenship by the entry and exit administration department of China's public security authorities. Applicants who fail to pass the preliminary review or verification of citizenship will be deemed to have voluntarily relinquished their eligibility for admission, as well as the subsequent academic registration that they may obtain.
2. Applicants should be a graduating student of a bachelor's degree program or hold a bachelor's degree or above.
3. Applicants should present a TOEFL iBT certificate with a score of 80 or above, or an IELTS (academic) certificate with an overall score of 6.0 or above. XMU's DI Code for TOEFL is C310. Applicants who have taken all courses in English during their previous degree studies are exempt from this requirement, but a medium-of-instruction certificate from the high shool should be furnished. Native English speakers are exempt from this requirement.

It should be completed in Chinese or English and then printed out after successful online application.
(1) Graduating students of bachelor’s degree programs should provide a Certificate of Expected Graduation. They should obtain their bachelor’s degree certificate before their entry to XMU in September of the academic year.
(2) Degree certificates obtained outside the Chinese Mainland should be notarized by the local notary public office.
(3) The originals of the degree certificates and notarized documents should be made available for verification upon enrolment at XMU.
(1) Graduating students of bachelor’s programs should provide academic transcripts for each year of bachelor’s degree studies to date.
(2) Bachelor’s degree holders should submit a complete set of academic transcripts for their bachelor’s degree studies.
(3) The results report of internationally accepted or standardized tests, e.g., GRE/GMAT/LSAT. XMU's DI Code for GRE is 4692.
The Plan should be no less than 1,000 words, written in English when applying for English-medium programs.

With information of the recommender’s names, employer and work position, either signed by the recommender or bearing the stamp of the recommending organization.
A TOEFL certificate with 80 points or above, or an IELTS certificate with grade 6.0 or above, or other certificate of English proficiency from an accredited test.
The passport should be valid through October 31, 2023
Including chest X ray image, electrocardiogram, laboratory exam results and data sheets of some required items, completed in Chinese or English, with the lower part of the applicant’s photo stamped by the hospital. Physical examination results are valid for 6 months.

The Statement should be accompanied by a copy of the financial sponsor’s valid passport or identification certificate. Applicants for scholarships are not exempt from this requirement.
