1. Program Introduction

Editor Notes: Students who pass the examinations can get a Soochow University Certificate upon completion of the program.

• This program improves students' skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing in Chinese language.
• This program can be divided into  Level 1 - level 7 (equivalent to HSK level, students higher than HSK 6 to enter level 7).
• Students will be arranged at different classes according to their current Chinese ability. 
• The size of the class is 20-30 students. 
• Students will have classes for five days per week, 20 hours per week in total.

2. Program Structure

Editor Notes: This program includes 16 main courses.

2.1 Required courses (in the morning):

Comprehensive Chinese (Grammar and Chinese characters),Chinese listening, Chinese reading and Chinese conversations.

2.2 Selective courses (in the afternoon):

Listening comprehension, reading comprehension, Chinese calligraphy, Chinese geography, Chinese movies, Chinese folk customs, Chinese idioms and stories, etc. (each semester offers slightly different subjects)

2.3 Cultural Club:

Wushu (Chinese martial arts), Erhu (Chinese traditional music instrument),Beijing Opera, Suzhou Dialect

2.4 Cultural Activities:

(free); Making Chinese food, visiting ancient city, celebrating Chinese festivals etc.

2.5 Cultural Activities:

Visiting Suzhou gardens, sightseeing in Shanghai, Hangzhou, Wuxi, Nanjing and Wuzhen etc.

• Students will have classes for 22 hours per week, 4 hours each morning (8:30-11:50), Monday through Friday. 
• Each class has at least 20 students. 
• Students will have these courses in the afternoon.

Non-Chinese citizens who are in good health and holding valid ordinary foreign passports. Applicants under the age of 18 are required to provide guardianship certificates.

* According to Article 12 [2020] from Ministry of Education,  if one or both of the parents are Chinese citizens and live abroad, the child will have foreign nationality at birth, rather than Chinese nationality. or emigrated from China. As a foreign student applicant, shall hold a valid foreign passport or nationality certificate for 4 years or more, and records for living abroad for 2 years or more from April 30, 2018 to April 30, 2022 (the practical residence abroad for 9 months in a year can be considered as one year, subject to entry and exit stamps).
