The pandemic may prevent us from travelling, but we will never stop learning. In fact, many of us have taken this time as an opportunity to increase our skills and to enjoy new projects.
Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University is offering a new online Chinese language course from March, 2022.
This is the course for you if you:
Our 10-week online Chinese course runs from 21 March to 31 May 2022. (5 April and 2 May are public holidays in China; the classes of these two days take place on 30 May and 31 May.)
The course consists of:
Live Lessons: These take place between 19:00 and 20:30 Beijing time (UTC+8), Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. The live online lessons add up to a total of 45 hours.
Live lessons allow you to talk directly with your teacher and also form “break-away” groups where you can practice talking with your classmates. We aim to maximise the amount of time for you to practice your talking and communicating. You and your teacher join the sessions using your device’s microphone and video camera so you can see and hear everything.
Self-study: Our virtual learning environment (VLE) is full of materials for you to practice at a time and place that suits you. These materials consist of videos, audio files, worksheets, and pronunciation and vocabulary guides. They have all been created as a result of our many years of experience in the field and are aimed to be as practical, realistic and authentic as possible. What's more, the live lessons are recorded and you can view them at any time to revise or review their content.
This is a practical and not a theoretical course. We will get you talking authentic Chinese right from the start and throughout. We have a student-centred and communicative style of teaching languages that puts students' ability to communicate successfully at the forefront of everything we do.
Our teachers are very experienced. A typical teacher of ours has more than five years' full-time teaching experience and has taught Chinese both in China and overseas.
EXPERTLY DESIGNED FOR BEGINNERS
We have been teaching Chinese to beginners for many years with great success. We know what works. We use everyday language to teach you how to speak, listen, read and do a little writing in Chinese. We teach exactly the kind of language you would expect to meet when communicating with Chinese speakers inside or outside of China. Our lessons are designed to maximise learning, while never losing their sense of fun or enjoyment. Learning Chinese as a beginner can be a rewarding and extremely positive experience, as we hope you will discover with us.
THE LATEST ONLINE LEARNING METHODS
Our virtual learning environment (VLE) lets you study when and how you want. We call this technology enhanced learning for a good reason. You will be able to plug into the course at any time to practice your skills and increase your knowledge. You will be able to directly communicate with your teacher and classmates using the VLE, and can even set up chat rooms and forums for further practice. The choice is yours and the sky’s the limit. All you need is an internet connection and a device, such as a laptop or tablet, with a camera and mic.
