Training Objectives

1. Students shall grasp the basic theory in the field of psychology and cognitive neuroscience, be familiar with the discipline frontier and development trend, have strong experimental design and research ability, and have good communication and writing skills.

2. Students shall have the ability to solve practical problems using the theory and knowledge, and have the capability for engaging in the teaching work, scientific research, and other professional technologic work independently.

Length of Schooling, Degree and Credits Requirements for Graduation

1.Length of schooling：It usually lasts 3 years. For excellent students who are admitted to the International PhD Program (Please see relevant info), the total length could be 2+4 years (master+doctor).

3.The Graduation credits：32

The curriculum and distribution of credits

Total credits are 32，in which degree courses take 13 credits，major & compulsory courses take 9 credits, major & optional courses take a minimum of 6 credits，practice courses take 2 credits，and thesis takes 2 credits, as it is shown in Table 1. The four modules of major & optional courses are recommended courses of research direction, which are: Basic Psychology (Module 1), Cognitive Neuroscience (Module 2), Developmental and Educational Psychology (Module 3), Applied Psychology (Module 4).

Research Practice (Compulsory, 2 credits)

At the end of the courses of study, students can be entered into the stage of research practice.

1. The content of practice course

Practice course includes: seminars on frontiers of the discipline.

Seminars on frontiers of the discipline include academic seminars and reports organized by the school, which is determined by the office of the institute of graduate students.

Research practice is an important stage in the practice of psychology by using the method and theory of psychology. The research practice is arranged by master's tutor. The management department is responsible for the supervision and management.

2. Time arrangement and scores

Seminars on frontiers of the discipline are arranged in the second semester, which has 8 times. Research practice is arranged in the third semester, and if its content is same to the master’s thesis, it can be extended to fourth semester. The total scores of practice are 2.

 Master’s Thesis

1. The style of thesis

The master’s thesis can be research report. 

The research thesis should:

(1) Have academic and practical importance,

(2) Be relevant to and connect to previous studies,

(3) Have reasonable design, proper methods, reliable data,

(4) Have some innovations, either in research questions, views, materials, design, or methods,

(5) Be in APA formats, clear, logic, justified.

2. The tutor of master’s thesis

Master's thesis is guided by master's tutor.

3. Degree thesis defense

Degree thesis defense is the last stage of the whole graduate program of psychology. If the thesis is pass evaluation, the school is responsible for the arrangement of the defense.

Awarded Diploma

Those who have achieved enough course credits and succeeded in the thesis defense will be awarded M.S. degrees of psychology in Research Institute of Psychological Science.

• Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens, aged 18 and above and in good health, holding valid passports, and willing to abide by China's laws and the university's rules and regulations and show due respect to China's social and cultural customs.
• Score 180 or above,HSK Level 5.

Certificate in languages other than Chinese or English should be translated into Chinese or English and be certified by notarization. Both original and official English translated version are required.

*3. Academic Transcripts of Bachelor degree

Academic Transcripts in languages other than Chinese or English should be translated into Chinese or English and be certified by notarization. Both original and official English translated version are required.

*4. Two Recommendation Letters

Written in English from two respectable professors. including professors' contact no, email address and handwritten signature.

*5. English proficiency test certificate

For example, IELTS or TOEFL, only for applicant whose native language is not English.

*6. Physical exam report

Please make sure you download the template here since it is different from the common template. And please make sure the applicants do below examinations and provide related reports:
1. Chest X-RAY.
2. Blood report. The blood report needs to contain the items of the report on HI= test and HCV test (hepatitis C virus).

*7. A copy of passport

With name, passport number & expiration date, and photo included(Photocopy of valid passport identification page. Passport must be an ordinary passport and be valid for at least six months. Applicants currently residing in China must include a copy of the page containing a valid visa or residence permit.)
