The terrain descends gradually from the southwest to southeast, and from the east to northeast; Jinghang Canal flows through its hinterland. The city has its own airport, Yangzhou Taizhou Airport, which is located at Dinggou Town, Jiangdu District, and 30km away from the city center area. Currently, it serves flights daily to over 10 large cities in China, including Beijing, Shenzhen, Xiamen, Shenyang, Xian, Guangzhou, Kunming, Sanya, Harbin and Chengdu. Visitors can also fly into Nanjing Lukou International Airport and then take the daily buses (about 1.5 hours) to get to this city. 

Yangzhou has subtropical monsoon climate with humid, variable winds; the winters are longer, about 4 months, with summers 3 months, and shorter springs and autumns, 2 months respectively; annual average frost-free period of 222 days and 2177 hours sunshine.  Average Annual Temperature: 15 °C; the hottest month is July with an average temperature of 27.6 °C and the coldest is January with average of 1.7 °C; overall maximum temperature of 39.8 °C and minimum - 19 °C Rainfall: annual average of 1030mm, with the rainy season from the middle of June to late July.
