Summer is hot and humid due to the East Asian monsoon.

Drought conditions are common in spring and autumn; from 1961 to 2009, there were 31 years with spring drought and 28 with autumn drought.

Winter is long (lasting from November to March), very cold, windy, but dry due to the influence of the Siberian high.

Baicheng railway station is a railway hub in western Jilin Province. There are multiple daily departures to other cities including Beijing, Harbin, Changchun, Shenyang, Dalian, Qiqihar, Ulanhot and several other cities in northern provinces of China.

Baicheng Chang'an Airport has been under construction since October 26, 2012.

Xianghai Nature Reserve is a national scenic area characterized by a grassland and wetland landscape. Swamps, reed marshes and apricot trees, together with the undulating dunes and shining lakes, capture a picturesque view. The advantaged condition attracts many cranes living here and Xianghai is well known as a town of crane. 

Donggou Wetland Hunting Field is situated at the convergence of Da'an City and Tongyu County. The whole field was divided into nine hunting zones according to water fowl, fur and feather. The hunting field is open for about three months during spring and summer.
